How to add FileForge to your iPhone or Android home screen

Published · FileForge

A home-screen icon saves you from finding the website each time you need to combine a PDF or resize a photo. FileForge can be added through your phone’s browser without an app-store download. The installation guide includes real iPhone screenshots; Android uses a different browser menu.

Add it with Safari on iPhone or iPad

Open FileForge in Safari, not in a messaging app’s built-in browser. Tap Share; on some Safari versions, the Share command is inside the three-dot menu. Scroll down the Share sheet and choose Add to Home Screen. Keep the FileForge name, leave Open as Web App enabled if your version offers it, and tap Add.

You should now see a FileForge icon on the home screen. Tap it to reopen the toolkit. The browser controls and menu positions vary by iOS version, so use the command names rather than assuming a button will always be at the same edge of your screen.

Use Chrome on Android

Visit FileForge in Chrome, open the three-dot browser menu, and look for Install app or Add to Home screen. Confirm the prompt. Depending on your browser and device, you may get an installed web app or a shortcut that opens the website.

If the command is missing, make sure you are using the full browser rather than an in-app view, and try an updated Chrome. Managed work phones can restrict installation. You can still use FileForge in a normal browser tab when adding an icon is unavailable.

What installation does—and does not—save

The icon is a convenient way back to the toolkit. It is not a cloud account, a file library, or a backup. Selected files remain part of the current task; download a finished result before closing the window and keep your original document in your usual storage.

Adding an icon does not guarantee that a fresh launch works without internet. Pages and processing code may need to load, especially the first time you open a media or image-enhancement tool. File processing itself remains local. For large videos or big PDF bundles, a desktop can be a better choice because phones have less available memory.

Check the first result on your phone

Start with a small, non-sensitive sample. Choose it from the device’s file picker, run the tool, download the result, and open the saved copy from your files app. Confirm that the output looks correct and that you know where downloads go before working on important material.

To remove the icon later, use the normal home-screen removal menu. Removing an icon does not remove files you downloaded separately. Keep the browser and operating system updated, and follow your workplace’s handling rules for confidential records.
